Today, requirements expected from asphalts are economic solutions to reduce rutting, fatigue- and thermal cracking increase durability independent of climatic conditions AND improve workability. Often, energy intensive, high temperatures are used at the expense of other parameters being negatively affected such as polymer additives degradation, bitumen oxidation or heightened danger of pavement cracking. Consequently, compromises have to be made to meet these requirements. One solution is the addition of LUCOWAX to polymer modified bitumen (PmB) reducing viscosity, improving workability by allowing lower production and laying temperature and thus better economics as well as a reduced environmental impact.
