The use of polymers for wires and cables was long dominated by elastomers. Today, wire and cable production shifted towards thermoplastics based mostly on PE's and PVC's replacing more and more traditional elastomers. PE's offer excellent insulating capability, moisture and chemical resistance, flexibility as well as light weight. In comparison, PVC's are heavier, flexible and are somewhat poorer insulators.
